Something I’ve noticed myself doing lately is looking down at my phone. Not just once in a while, but all the time. I walk to work looking down. I sit in my car (when I’m not moving) looking down. I sit on the couch looking down. Not only is this horrible for my neck, but I am missing so much going on around me.
Social media will alway be a what someone wants you to see and never the whole truth. This is why it is important for us not to get too invested into social media and understand it is just a highlight reel. I’ll be honest and say that I love scrolling through Instagram. But more than anything I really just love beautiful photos.
We need to be more present in our everyday lives. None of us want to get to the end of our lives and realize we spent most of our time in a digital life. So instead of investing ourselves into our Instagram feeds and our Snapchat stories, step back, turn off your phone and enjoy the world around you.
3 Things To Do To Get Out Of Your Digital Life –
- Put your phone away at night. A couple hours before you go to bed put your phone on Do Not Disturb (if you have an iPhone) so that those people on your list can contact you in case of emergency but all other notifications are silenced.
- Don’t look at your phone until your are ready to leave in the morning. When you get up in the morning, don’t check your messages, email, Instagram, Snapchat or anything else until you are walking out the door.
- Set a timer for your social media usage. Set a timer for 5-10 minutes and allow yourself to fall down whatever rabbit hole your want, but when that timer goes off, shut it down. This allows you to enjoy all the social media you want but in a controlled and limiting matter.
