Four Favorite Non-Toxic Sunscreen

non-toxic sunscreen

There is a huge benefit to being out in the sun! Yes, there is the threat of skin cancer, but the toxins in your sunscreen can cause just as big of risk of cancer! About 3 years ago I switched to non-toxic sunscreen. Just like in makeup, many companies have placed lots chemicals into our products that aren’t needed.

Did you know that the Evironmental Working Group found that almost 75% of sunscreen products they reviewed either didn’t work adequate to protect from UV rays or they contained dangerous ingredients? Some of the major ingredients to avoid in sunscreen include oxybenzone and retinyl palmitate (The Trouble With Ingredients in Sunscreen).

Mineral sunscreens use two main ingredients to protect against the sun: mineral sunscreen and titanium dioxide. Mineral sunscreens usually rate higher on safety better then chemical sunscreens. This is why I choose to use a mineral non-toxic sunscreen instead.

I’ve been trying out some new sunscreens that are non-toxic and totally approved of! Just be aware that there are lots of sunscreens out there that are green washed! You need to check all ingredients to make sure you are buying non-toxic sunscreen.

Four of my favorite non-toxic sunscreens –

NOn-toxic sunscreenBadger Broad Spectrum Zinc Oxide –

This is a great sunscreen that you can find in a lot of health food stores as well as online. I’ve used this for a few years and think it is a pretty good. It doesn’t leave a white cast, however it will leave a bit of a residue on your skin. (Click here to order)

Ingredients – Non-Nano, Uncoated Zinc Oxide 18.75%, Olea Europaea (Extra Virgin Olive) Oil, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Butter, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), and CO2 Extracts of Hippophae Rhamnoides (Seabuckthorn).
